BiState II back in the news
Lamar Hunt, owner of the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs, was a very disappointed man on November 3rd. The residents of 5 counties (3 in Missouri and 2 in Kansas) voted against giving him 700 million dollars to fix up Arrowhead Stadium... well, one of the Missouri counties voted for it, but it had to pass in three counties to happen.
Lamar Hunt not only owns the Chiefs, but also the Major League Soccer team here. The Kansas City Wizards (obviously a reference to the Wizard of Oz... which happens in Kansas, NOT Missouri dumb ass) were one of the ten inaguraul teams of the MLS back in the mid-90's. Well, Lamar can't afford them anymore. At least that's what he claims. He is putting the Wizards up for sale.
Personally, I think it's sour grapes because the taxpayers here didn't want to give a billionaire sports team owner (who lives in Texas BTW) millions of free dollars. Why do I think that?
Well, lets look at what Lamar has done in other cities. Yeah, KC isn't the only city Lamar has teams in.
Columbus Ohio - Lamar Hunt owns the MSL Soccer team there. He begged for them to build him a soccer stadium with tax money... they said no. He built one with his own money and the Columbus Crew have their very own stadium. Every dime that team makes goes in Lamar's pocket... and it should. He paid for it all.
Dallas Texas - Lamar recently bought the MLS Soccer team in Dallas (his hometown BTW). He's actually putting up 10 million toward building a soccer stadium there. The town of Frisco (where the stadium will be) is putting up most of the money, but Lamar will be paying all the bills for the stadium, plus paying rent of $100,000 per year. The lease is for 20 years, so the town won't get screwed.
Well, he has lots of money for Columbus and Dallas, but none for KC. Kind of shitty if you ask me. His profits from the KC Chiefs for the past two years is over $50 million... PROFIT... his money above all expenses!
Sell the Wizards Lamar... be a prick. Sell the Chiefs while you're at it... you won't get a dime more of taxpayers money. Well, at least I hope you don't.
