I warned you...

How 'bout them Patriots!

A 42-15 whipping of the Cleveland Browns.

Yeah, I know, the Browns suck... but it's the story behind the score that tells it all. It's a great story of revenge... of sticking it to the fans who once threatened your life.

In 1991 Bill Belichick got his first break as an NFL head coach... with the Cleveland Browns. I wouldn't say he did great, but he did improve the team in the first 3 years. In 1995 the Browns flat out sucked. The fans blamed Belichick. But they had hated him almost since day one, when he benched hometown favorite QB Bernie Kosar for Vinnie Testeverde.

Belichick was actually getting death threats from fans. These threats were credible enough that Belichick had to hire 24 hour security for his house. What the fuck is up with fans who would threaten a coaches life? I hate Pete Carroll, but not enough to kill the man!

Anyway... after the end of the 1995 season Art Modell (then the owner of the Browns) packed up the team and moved it to Baltimore where they became the Ravens. Belichick was fired, and returned to work as an assistant to Bill Parcells at New England.

Flash forward to 1999. Cleveland whines so much about not having a football team that the NFL gives them a new team... the Cleveland Browns second edition.

In 2000, Bill Belichick is hired by Patriots owner Bob Kraft as head coach, and New England travels to Cleveland for a game. The Pats lost that game (19-11) at Cleveland, and the classless Browns fans taunted Belichick during the entire game.

Ahhhh, but payback and revenge would come... yes it would.

This past Sunday Bill Belichick could have had his Patriots play the game "safe" with a very big lead in the fourth quarter. The Pats always play it safe with a lead. They don't blitz, the drop back into coverage and let the opponent run the ball to use up the clock. They themselves run the ball, not caring about first downs or scoring... but playing it safe.

Not this past Sunday. Belichick pulled off the kid gloves and sent his defense after poor Browns QB Luke McCown after the Pats had the game sewn up. Not once, not twice, but on three consecutive plays. Sack. Sack. Sack. Of course that was after having Tom Brady throw the long pass twice attempting to run up the score, which they did.

After the game... as he was walking off the field, Bill Belichick did something he never does (unless he just won the Super Bowl). He looked up in the stands and jabbed his fist into the air!
Take that fuckin Cleveland fans!

Yeah, take that!
