Olathe and assorted stuff

Well, Yapping Yael (at the KCStar) should be very happy. Olathe has decided to NOT build a small arena in the area of 119th & I35. They will however still build a conference/retail center there. The two major tenants will be Bass Pro Shops and a Sears Superstore. Now that Olathe has pulled out of the arena race, the KCStar is putting all it's nasty rhetoric into attempting to get Overland Park to do the same with their arena plans. The KCStar editorial board doesn't believe that anything entertaining should be located farther than 10 feet outside of downtown Kansas City.

The Kansas Attorney General, Phil Kline, has been seeking the records of underage women who had abortions in Kansas. Last year a Shawnee District Court judge issued a "gag order" ok for Phil to go fishing for these records, and the gag meant that the people whose records were being sought could NOT be notified. Of course Mr. Kline says he's going after the records so he can prosecute rapists and possibly the doctors/nurses and the women themselves if the abortions were late term abortions. Planned Parenthood has stood its ground against Phil Klines' morality police tactics, and just today the Kansas Supreme Court issued a one word decision, "GRANTED", to Planned Parenthood that reverses the gag order. While this doesn't stop Kline from requesting the records, it does allow PP and other clinics to notify the patients that their records are being sought. Phil Kline, grandstanding, says this will harm his investigation "because it will notify these people"... well duh! Medical records are private unless there is ALREADY proof that a crime has been commited, or that the probability of a specific crime exists. That isn't the case with these records, Phil just wants to look them over and see if anything happened. Sorry Phil... keep your f'ing hands off those records. Next election, your ass is gone!
